Grain-free, high-fibre, low starch and sugar pellets, especially for horses susceptible to the Equine Metabolic Syndrome, laminitis, equine myopathies as well as the Cushing’s Syndrome.
More and more horse owners have to cope with the vet’s diagnosis that their horse is suffering from the Equine Metabolic Syndrome or from the Cushing’s Syndrome. Horses with this kind of metabolic disorder are unfortunately even more susceptible to the feared and very painful laminitis which has frequently already manifested itself before the metabolic disorder has been diagnosed. The future feeding schedule has to be adapted to this disease which means that starch from grains and grain-based concentrates as well as sugar from pasture feed have to be reduced to a minimum in order to prevent any additional disturbances in the carbohydrate metabolism. We assist you in finding the appropriate diet for your horse.
Equigard Classic
The grain-free high-fibre pellet, molasses-free
Equigard Classic is a grain-free, high-fibre pellet, specifically designed for balancing the energy intake of horses that require a particularly low starch and sugar diet. This includes horses susceptible to the Equine Metabolic Syndrome, laminitis, equine myopathies such as Tying-up, PSSM and rhabdomyolysis as well as the Cushing’s Syndrome and gastric ulcers.
– free from grain and molasses
– low in starch and sugar
– rich in low glycemic fibres
– contains a special range of minerals designed to stabilize the carbohydrate and fat metabolism
– low energy content and really good acceptance
– contains herbs, ground algae, oils and oleaginous fruit
The power of research
According to the latest research, horses susceptible to equine myopathy (Tying-up, PSSM), laminitis, the Metabolic or the Cushing’s Syndrome should only be fed a highly limited amount of non-structural carbohydrates such as grain starch and sugar. Equigard Classic has been specifically designed to address this problem and contains approx. 80% less starch and sugar than oats. It has been especially formulated to have a very low energy content and is the perfect feed as weight-reducing diet for overweight horses, combined with a reduced access to grazing. The increased energy requirement of performance horses should preferably be met using native oil, oil seeds and quickly fermenting fibres for which we recommend a combined feed ration comprising Struktur-Energetikum, Alfalfa Mix and HippoLinol. Equigard Classic is also the perfect feed for horses on stall rest if they face the problem of gaining weight too fast.
Regulating the fat and sugar metabolism
Apart from its balanced mineral content, Equigard Classic also features a balanced range of functional micronutrients like magnesium, zinc, copper, manganese, selenium, Ω-3 fatty acids, lecithin and antioxidants such as vitamin E and fruit flavonoids that are particularly effective in stabilizing the insulin sensitivity, the carbohydrate and fat metabolism. Equigard Classic contains a considerably increased content in highly-digestible, structured carbohydrates and valuable fatty acids.
